Mohave Electric announces classroom grant winners

BULLHEAD CITY – Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) awarded eighteen $200 Classroom Grants to educators for financial assistance in making classroom learning more engaging.

Thirty-two applicants competed for the eighteen available grants. A team at MEC evaluated the projects submitted by educators basing their grading on creativity, following application instructions, classroom integration, as well as benefits and financial need to students. Classroom Grants are funded by assigned capital credits at no cost to the cooperative or its members.

“Investing in teachers is investing in the next generation,” said Heather Foreman, Public Affairs Coordinator. “Each grant brings innovative lessons to life and helps students engage in ways that go beyond textbooks.”

“Seeing teachers bring their lessons to life is a powerful reminder why supporting education matters,” added Christine Owens, Public Affairs Coordinator. “These grants help create learning experiences that are engaging, hands-on, and memorable sparking creativity, curiosity, and meaningful connections in the classroom.”

Project ideas ranged from butterfly life cycles, building blocks for geometry, storytelling, journaling, bringing scripts to life by strengthening reading comprehension, to creating little gardening scientists. Angella Hall, a kindergarten through 4th grade educator at Desert Valley School, earned the top score for her outstanding project, Life Cycles. “Receiving this $200 grant will directly support my ability to provide engaging, hands-on science learning experiences for my 87 EL K-4 students to see Life Cycles using real things. Specifically, the funds will allow me to obtain interactive supplies such as live butterfly kits, plant life cycle materials, observation tools, and manipulatives, resources that enrich curriculum instruction and give students authentic opportunities to observe life cycle processes in real time,” stated Hall.

The 18 selected educators represent eleven schools where their various programs will be implemented. The schools are Bullhead City Middle School, CRUHSD Academy, Desert Star Academy, Desert Valley School, Diamondback Elementary, Mohave Accelerated Learning Center, Mohave High School, River Valley High School, Sunrise Elementary, Tiny T-Birds, and Young Scholar’s Academy.

Congratulations to educators: Doreen Bangert, Peggy Bare, Angin Camba, Precious Camille Nanquil, Alexandra Cassera, Traci Cotter, Dione DeBord, Juvicel De Guzman, Shylynn Dominquez, Lori Garner, Angella Hall, Laurie Johnson, Cristel Ann Mendoza, Tammy Patterson, Shannon Rockwood, Amy Shumake, Aubry Sterk, David Trinidad.
