Mohave College Cosmetology program now accepting students

MOHAVE COUNTY — Mohave College is pleased to announce its Cosmetology Certificate program is now accepting students.  Prospective students are encouraged to get started by creating a student account at FutureBighorn.com, and can explore program details at Mohave.edu/Cosmetology.

Designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the professional beauty industry, the Cosmetology program offers comprehensive instruction in hair design, skin care, nail technology, and salon practices. The program consists of 40 academic credits and requires completion of 1,500 clock hours, combining classroom theory with hands-on training in a supervised salon setting to help students meet Arizona licensure requirements.

“This program is a direct response to community demand and workforce need,” said Dr. June Weiss, Dean of the Health and Public Services Division. “Mohave College is proud to fill that gap by offering comprehensive cosmetology training that gives students the skills, hours, and confidence needed to earn licensure and step into jobs in our local salons and spas.”

Students will receive instruction in sanitation and safety, hair cutting and styling, chemical services, fundamentals of esthetics, manicuring and pedicuring, and salon operations. The curriculum also emphasizes technical proficiency, professional conduct, effective communication, and high-quality client service in a diverse workplace.

Classes will be taught in downtown Kingman, in a facility the College is renovating specifically for the program, next to its Beal Street Center.  The first classes are scheduled to start during the fall semester.

The program was approved by the District Governing Board last year and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was developed in response to workforce needs and local input, creating new opportunities for students seeking a career change, recent graduates, and future professionals entering the beauty industry.
