BULLHEAD CITY – On Tuesday, July 15, at 7:33 a.m., 542 Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) members experienced an outage due to a damaged connector after strong stormy winds. Crews responded by de-energizing the line to make repairs. Once repairs were completed, the line was re-energized, and power was restored to all members at 9:53 a.m. The outage affected members north of Marina Blvd. and south of Church Street of Bullhead City.
Manager of Engineering & Operations, Jerry Hardy stated, “Monsoon season has begun, and wind can be one of the largest effects on our system. When trees, awnings, or other objects contact power lines or electrical equipment, the system’s protection devices, such as fuses and breakers, operate and cause an outage to guard against additional equipment failure. Since monsoon season is upon us it is a good time to remind members to make sure large objects are secured and to review tree and power line safety practices.”
