Long pleads guilty to child sex offenses

A Lake Havasu City man who provided detailed sex offense confessions involving a young girl has taken a double decade plea agreement rather than risking trial convictions that would guarantee him life behind bars. David Long, 44, pleaded guilty May 14 to charges involving his victimization of a seven year-old-girl early this year.

Long is convicted of sexual conduct with a minor for an act involving oral sex committed on Jan. 22 at a Lake Havasu City residence. Long is also convicted of the reduced charge of attempted child molestation for a touching incident committed at the same address six days before.

The deal dismisses five other charges involving the girl, one of them dating back to May 2016.

Judge Billy Sipe told Long during a May 6 settlement conference that his multiple admissions left him little chance of acquittal, and likely multiple life prison sentences if convicted of all counts at trial.

Terms of the deal entered Tuesday require imposition of a 20-year prison term at a June 17 sentencing hearing. Should Long be released at the age of 64, he would then face lifelong supervised probation and a requirement that he register as a sex offender.
