Havasu launches annual street preservation program beginning May 4

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City begins chip sealing throughout the City beginning Monday, May 4, for approximately four weeks, as part of the annual pavement preservation program.

This project consists of placing approximately 375,000 square yards of chip seal surface and 500,000 square yards of CQS seal (a quick-setting asphalt surface treatment) on streets in various portions of the city. The chip sealing and CQS process is an efficient and cost-effective method of prolonging the usable service life of asphalt pavement.

Residents and businesses located along streets being surfaced will receive a detailed door hanger notice approximately five days in advance of the construction and again 24 hours prior to the work. The City asks that residents refrain from parking on the streets, remove all vehicles from the streets during the time they are scheduled to be sealed, and avoid releasing water into the streets during this time.

Lake Havasu City appreciates our residents’ patience and cooperation during the street sealing process.  Speed limit reductions are in force through the work areas.  Motorists traveling on streets being chip-sealed or CQS-sealed can expect delays due to street-sealing activities and possible flagging to direct traffic. Traffic cones, arrows, and other devices will delineate travel lanes.  Motorists can expect some lane and access restrictions, and it is recommended that motorists use alternate routes whenever possible.

As always, the public is requested to use caution and obey all traffic signs when traveling through construction zones.  To view a map of the roadways scheduled for the proposed work, visit www.lhcaz.gov/streets.
