Lake Havasu agencies partner to provide meal vouchers

LAKE HAVASU CITY – As high unemployment continues due to the current worldwide health crisis, one popular tourist destination in western Arizona is battling food insecurity.

In Lake Havasu City, the local convention and visitors bureau, is teaming with the Lake Havasu Hospitality Association (LHAA), representing the city’s hotels, restaurants, RV park and campgrounds, and rental services, to offer meal vouchers to hundreds of unemployed hospitality employees who have been financially affected by COVID-19.

Each meal voucher is worth one take-out meal which varies by participating restaurant and is valid for one week. The program will continue for three weeks and possibly be extended based upon need.

Vouchers can be redeemed at Barley Brothers, Blue Chair, Cha-Bones, Ed’s Deli, Frank-N-Stein Pub, Four Clovers, Javelina Cantina, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Jersey’s Bar & Grill, La Vita Dolce Italian Bistro, McKee’s Pub & Grill, Ohana Poke Bowl, and Tavern 95. Voucher recipients need to call in for take-out and explain they intend to use a meal voucher.

“While others are focused on securing masks, gowns, hand sanitizer, and other personal protective equipment for medical personnel and first responders, we jointly decided to concentrate on providing food assistance to our valuable hospitality workers, many of whom visitors meet when they arrive on vacation,” said Terence Concannon, president and CEO of Go Lake Havasu.

“We hope to expand the list of participating restaurants as the program continues.”

Vouchers are available to employees and immediate family members who present proof of employment on April 13-30 at The KAWS, 2144 McCulloch Blvd.
