Kingman welcomes Kingman Academy students for Careers in Government Tour

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman welcomed students from Kingman Academy of Learning (KAOL) this week as part of the KAOL Careers in Government Tour, a hands-on opportunity for local high schoolers to explore future careers in public service. The students, primarily sophomores along with several seniors, are currently enrolled in an introductory public service course designed to help them prepare for future college and career pathways. Their visit provided an inside look at how local government operates and allowed them to hear directly from City staff about the meaningful work they do every day.

During their visit, students began their morning with City Manager Tim Walsh, who introduced them to how City leadership sets priorities, guides policy, and oversees the operations that keep Kingman moving forward. They then visited Utility Billing and Finance, where they learned how strong financial stewardship, careful budgeting, and quality customer service form the backbone of reliable public services. The tour continued through Information Technology, Development Services, Economic Development, and Human Resources, offering students a closer look at how innovation, thoughtful planning, business support, and a well-prepared workforce collectively help shape Kingman’s growth, strengthen its economy, and ensure the city can meet the needs of its residents today and into the future.

The group also toured Fire Station 21, 911 Dispatch, and the City Attorney’s Office, where they saw how emergency response, public safety, communications, and legal services coordinate to keep Kingman safe. The experience concluded with Engineering and the Municipal Courthouse, offering students insight into infrastructure planning, construction oversight, and the judicial processes that help uphold community standards.

“The City is committed to supporting youth education and inspiring the next generation of public service professionals,” said City Manager Tim Walsh. “Opportunities like this help students envision their future roles in shaping stronger communities.”

Throughout the morning, students had the opportunity to engage with professionals across a wide range of disciplines, gaining firsthand perspectives on the challenges, responsibilities, and rewards of municipal service. By seeing these operations up close, they were able to better understand how each department contributes to the City’s overall mission and to the daily lives of Kingman residents.
