Kingman Veterans Treatment Court volunteers support local service dog program

KINGMAN – Members of the Kingman Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) volunteered their time on Saturday, June 6, to support a local program that provides service dogs to Veterans living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Under the leadership of Kingman Magistrate Jeffrey Singer, participants and supporters of the VTC helped construct dog enclosures and runs, install landscaping, and complete lighting improvements. The volunteer effort reflects the court’s ongoing commitment to service and community involvement.

The volunteer project benefited Arizona Veterans K9 Services, a local nonprofit organization that operates in partnership with Mutt Matchers at 1001 Buchanan Street in Kingman. Founded in 2021 and overseen by Army Veteran Sean Ragan and Air Force Veteran Talaan Self, the organization works to give rescue dogs a second chance while evaluating and training them for potential placement as service animals for Veterans living with PTSD.

The Kingman Veterans Treatment Court plans to continue supporting Arizona Veterans K9 Services through future volunteer opportunities as needs arise, furthering a shared commitment to serving Veterans and strengthening the community.

The goal of the VTC is to restore Veterans to being successful, contributing members of the community. The Court provides an alternative justice pathway for veterans struggling with challenges such as PTSD, substance use, and mental health issues.  With the expertise of the VA, very real and underlying issues facing these Veterans can be addressed through specialized treatment programs offered by the VA and other Veterans assistance and mental health agencies.
