Kingman man pleads guilty to drug dealing, begs judge for second chance

Interior of courtroom

KINGMAN — A Kingman man threw himself under the bus at his March 6 sentencing hearing for drug case convictions. Alfred Talavera, 39, was quite candid as he addressed Mohave County Superior Court judge Lee Jantzen.

“I’m guilty of being a drug dealer. I’m guilty of being a drug addict,” Talavera said. “I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve ruined my life…Please give me the chance to prove that I am not worthless.”

A trial jury found Talavera guilty of possession of a narcotic drug for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities located and seized 39 grams of fentanyl powder and 260 fentanyl pills from an orange container confiscated from the floorboard where Talavera was seated during a traffic stop last May. Deputy county attorney Carlos Lopez noted the drugs are valued at $18,000.

Judge Jantzen imposed a 6-year prison term.
