Kingman man arrested for stabbing, domestic violence

KINGMAN — A Kingman man was stabbed in the head during a Jan. 3 encounter in a garage at a residence in the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue. Police responded just after 1:40 a.m. to Kingman Regional Medical Center where the victim fled for treatment.

That the victim and suspect had been involved in separate relationships with a 36-year-old Kingman woman is a case component. Extensive police reports indicate that the woman left her 13 and 20-year old sons at the Atlantic home in the late hours of January 2 after the suspect, 37-year-old Reid Smith had been drinking through the day, assaulted her and was “acting out.”

The woman and another former boyfriend made a late-night-early morning return trip to Smith’s home on Atlantic to retrieve her teenage son and his belongings. Smith reportedly stabbed the other boyfriend in the right temple as parties were gathering the teens’ possessions in the garage.

The victim and others fled the home, telling police they heard gunfire behind them. No one was injured but investigators found what police said appeared to be two bullet holes to the front screen door.

The police report said the victim told them that he sustained a 2-centimenter deep cut to his head as he was preparing for hospital discharge.

Police cautiously approached Smith’s home, as it was believed that the suspect was hostile toward law enforcement. He reportedly opened the garage door and submitted to arrest, following announced police commands.

The police report said that Smith claimed he had been assaulted by multiple parties in the garage and used his pocket-knife in self-defense. It also said it didn’t appear that Smith had sustained any injury.

Smith was booked into the Adult Detention Facility for two assaults counts, a weapons offense and domestic violence.
