KINGMAN – The Kingman Cancer Care Unit (KCCU) received a donation from Angle Homes for $35,000 last Thursday afternoon, May 13. “We’re happy to be able to support such a great local cause. No one here [at KCCU] is getting paid and they help out people at their most vulnerable time, when they are sick,” said Angle Home President Tyler Angle.
KCCU has around 80 members and has been in operation for 46 years. In the last year, they have provided $111,000 in financial assistance and provided aid for 97 local cancer patients.
KCCU President Claire Crum says they have very little overhead and it helps. The organization meets at the Kathryn Heidenreich Adult Center the third Tuesday of every month in order to keep cost down and all the members are volunteers.
“It’s an incredibly honorable group, that I am so proud to be a part of,” says Crum. “We wear pink shirts, but we provide assistance for all types of cancer patients, not just breast cancer.”
Crum stressed that while KCCU is a charitable organization, all assistance is provided anonymously to protect the patients’ privacy. Assistance payments go directly to the organization providing a service, such as utilities, rent, etc. KCCU provides assistance such as financial services, transportation both locally and for out of the area treatments, help with utility bills and rent, assistance with medication costs not covered by insurance.
