KINGMAN – Keeping true to our mission statement, Mohave County Superior Court is once again using technology to provide innovative solutions to our Court System. The Mohave County Clerk of Superior Court has announced the very successful jury selection process this week with some jurors participating by Zoom. This makes the Mohave Model one of the first, if not the very first Court in the nation to accomplish this goal.
Twenty-five jurors appeared in person and ten chose to appear using Zoom technology. Those appearing in person reported to the old DES Building for check-in which allowed for adequate social distancing. They were then directed to the courtroom as needed.
The entire process took the same amount of time as it would have if all jurors were in person and Judge Sipe had his jury selected and seated before noon.
Although it is safe to serve on a jury panel, this process had additional benefits by allowing for additional space needs; saving the jurors time; and saving the county money. The successful model will be repeated again on July 9th when the next jury is empaneled as well as future jury trials for the Superior Court.
I was one of those potential jurors who appeared in person. Along with ZOOM, it went pretty quickly. I wasn’t selected, but loved being one of the first.
