LAKE HAVASU CITY — Lake Havasu City remains a spring break destination, but the days of packed parts of the lake where people can walk from boat to boat without needing to get in the water are long gone.
College students visiting Havasu on spring break typically takes up much of March and continues into April some years.
In past years, Bridgewater Channel has been packed with those students soaking up the sun, playing beer pong, throwing around a football and generally hanging out in the water with friends. That’s likely again this year, but the numbers of student visitors and the wild partying has noticeably gone down in recent years.
“It’s not the wild party scene that we’re seeing,” said Kristina Gallo, board chair for Go Lake Havasu, the city’s tourism organization.
Tour operators that used to organize activities for college students to come to Lake Havasu City are no longer coming to Havasu, said Gallo who also is the assistant general manager at London Bridge Resort. Fewer of those organizations exist and more of them are deciding to go outside of the country where the drinking age is lower, she said.
London Bridge Resort has a bit of a different focus for spring break as the visitors interested in their own spring break seems to be changing as well.
The resort is seeking to cater to a wider range of visitors that want their own spring break that can include parents and the college students, and assorted part-time visitors and winter visitors.
In its promotion, the resort is working to move away from an “all or nothing” approach to spring break by offering what it calls a new Recharge & Repeat Package, a “wellness-forward option” created for guests to enjoy spring break nightlife while prioritizing balance. The package offers poolside and nightlife activity with experiences such as yoga sessions and Hydr8AZ IV infusion options, designed to help guests reset for the next day.
The winter months generally already have gone well for hotels and resorts with a busy and well-attended event season in Havasu.
Specifically, the Nautical Beachfront Resort has had strong occupancy levels so far in the first quarter of 2026, according to Nautical General Manager, Steven Boswell.
Boswell said Havasu and the surrounding business community rely heavily on favorable weather during the first quarter of the year and that has been the case.
Favorable weather appears likely to continue for spring break activities in the month ahead with above average temperatures and dry conditions continuing through the extended forecast.
So when spring breakers from Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, University of Arizona and Grand Canyon University trickle in on Saturday, March 7 for the week ahead, the weather is likely to be ideal for a little fun in the sun.
Unrest in Mexico amid the fallout of killing of a drug kingpin, also could redirect some spring breakers back to the United States and Lake Havasu City, Gallo added.
