LAKE HAVASU CITY — A baseball trading card dispute that escalated into a stabbing has resulted in a 7-year prison term for a Lake Havasu City man. Jason Jumper, 47, was sentenced December 1 by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen.

Jumper is convicted of aggravated assault in a plea agreement that mandated a 2-7 year prison term.

Defense attorney Ross Carponelli argued for mitigated punishment. He said Jumper was intoxicated before the assault and that he has suffered A lifelong substance abuse disorder dating back to when his father began providing him alcohol at the age of six.

Deputy Mohave County attorney Karolina Czaplinska countered the maximum sentence is appropriate given that the defendant visited uninvited, refused to leave and stabbed the victim who was trying to escort him off the property at 862 Chalon Drive on July 30. She said the victim suffered multiple stab wounds, a broken wrist and a difficult stream of hospital and medical bills.

Jantzen cited several reasons for imposing the maximum prison sentence under terms of the plea agreement, and an extensive criminal history that included 48 misdemeanor convictions.
