Havasu man pleads guilty to arson

LAKE HAVASU CITY — A Lake Havasu City man faces possible prison time after pleading guilty to setting three fires inside a residence in the 100 block of Tema Drive last Dec. 21. Michael Shick, 26, would be convicted of arson of an occupied structure in plea deal dismissing four endangerment counts.

Shick had burns on his face when contacted by police who responded to the residential structure fire at 12:54 a.m. Points of fire origin included Shick’s bedroom, the living room and a closet where he believed smoke would rise into the attic to flush out individuals who would exit the space.

“He stated he thought the smoke would push the people, out but the fire got out of hand,” a police report said. Shick reportedly woke up his father and sister to alert them of the fire danger.

No one else was hurt.

Shick could be placed on probation, with or without some jail time. He is also exposed to up to 2.5-years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled March 4 before Mohave County Superior Court judge Megan McCoy.
