Havasu man charged with abuse of infant

LAKE HAVASU CITY — A Lake Havasu City man faces prosecution for the alleged abuse of his three-week-old son. A 27-page police department narrative indicated that officers responded on August 25 when summoned to the hospital because of suspicious injuries and aggressive behavior displayed by the infant’s father Donavin Maxson, 23.

The police report said that the victim had bruising about his face, arms, neck, an ear, an ankle and his back. The baby suffered cuts on his hands, abrasions by both nostrils and redness in both eyes associated with hemorrhaging.

The victim also suffered three leg fractures. “These types of injuries are very specific for pulls or wrenching on limbs,” the report said.

An unidentified medical official told investigators that it was suspected that the baby had been choked and had his nose pinched.

Maxson denied any intentional harm of his son, though text message review revealed the child’s mother had expressed concern regarding his rough handling of their baby.

Maxson is charged with aggravated assault and child abuse. He is incarcerated at the Adult Detention facility, and held on $25,000 bond.

The baby is in the custody and care of the Department of Child Safety.
