Great Dane rescued from residential blaze

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu City Fire Department (LHCFD) responded to reports of smoke in a residence in the 4000 block of Black Hills Bay the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20. According to a LHCFD press release, the homeowner reported a fire after finding smoke in the living room; he was able to evacuate.

The first arriving fire company reported 20 to 30 foot flames coming from the roof of the residence. Four Engine Companies, one Truck Company, one Alternative Response Vehicle (ARV), a Battalion Chief, and a Division Chief responded to the second alarm fire.

Fire crews were unable to enter the residence due to the advancing fire and collapsing roof structure. One firefighter reported a minor injury and remained on scene. An 8 ½ year old Great Dane was rescued and survived the fire. CERT responded to the fire to assist with Rehab duties for the firefighters. Crews remained on the scene an additional six hours conducting salvage operations and fire watch. The cause of the fire is under investigation
