Fourth annual Tomato Quest will bring together community members for horticulture festival

KINGMAN — The Mohave County Extension Service Master Gardners will be hosting a festival focused on horticulture education at Locomotive Park in downtown Kingman on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Ray Joiner, The Kingman Garage Band (KGB), as well as tumbler and line dancers. 

The event will feature several contests, including awards for Best Tasting Tomato, Best Cultivar, People’s Choice, and Salsa Champion.

The Salsa Contest will have prize baskets to First-, Second-, and Third-place winners. Orientation for the Salsa Contest will begin on October 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office, located at 101 E. Beale Street in Kingman. There is no fee to enter the contest. All salsas must be made on-site and a valid AZ Food Handler’s card is required.

There will also be a Tomato Talk booth offering tips and techniques for successful tomato cultivation. Free tomato seeds will be available, as well as signups for the Test Growers Program which aims to test desert-adapted cultivars for the surrounding area.

Other informational booths include: Water conservation and sustainable desert landscapes, Vermiculture, Gardening with Kids, Fruit and Nut Tree Cultivation, Mohave College Little Seed Library, Composting, and Farm to Power.
