Former caregiver takes plea in theft of elderly case

KINGMAN – The third defendant has entered a plea agreement for taking advantage of an elderly Mohave Valley man and stealing more than $150,000 in cash and valuables from his home. Cody Huckaby, 36, Oregon, pleaded guilty to theft and trafficking in stolen property during a May 26 hearing before Mohave County Superior Court Judge Megan McCoy.

Case co-defendants Jesi Huckaby, 29, Oregon, and Breanna Millett, 44, Bullhead City were convicted through previous plea deals.

Deputy County Attorney Rod Albright told the court that Millett was a caretaker for the 85-year-old victim and learned that he had considerable assets within his home in the 8100 block of Smoketree Lane. Authorities said a plan was hatched to lure the man away from his home, so it could be looted.

Millett and Mr. Huckaby reportedly accessed the residence in May 2022 and left the property after raiding his safe. Prosecutors have said the proceeds were divided by the defendants with Mr. Huckaby using considerable sums to purchase a truck and a trailer.

Millett is serving a three-year prison term for her role in the case while Mrs. Huckaby, Cody’s former wife, resolved her case without prison, probation or jail consequence.

Mr. Huckaby faces up to 10 years in prison when he appears for sentencing on June 22. Judge McCoy must also determine whether Huckaby serves that time concurrently or consecutively to the multiple-year prison term he’s serving in Oregon for convictions in an unrelated drug case.
