Fatality victims identified in two separate incidents

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has released the names of two individuals who were killed in separate incidents on Christmas Eve. The victim of a residential structure fire in north Kingman has been identified as Joyce Gail Sawyer, 70, Kingman.

MCSO public information officer Anita Mortensen said life saving measures were implemented immediately by Northern Arizona Fire District personnel who extricated Sawyer from the home in the 2800 block of Hearne Ave. Sawyer died following transport to Kingman Regional Medical Center.

A deputy involved in the incident was released from the hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mortensen said the man who died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision in Littlefield is identified as Donald Alan Thurston, 59, Prineveille, Oregon. She said Thurston was dead at the scene after the southbound Toyota truck he was operating was struck by a northbound Ford truck that crossed the center line of Highway 91 in the vicinity of mile marker #3.

The driver of the Ford was reportedly apprehended running from the crash site. Mortensen said deputies arrested Michael Doan, 46, Las Vegas, hiding a short distance from the incident.

Doan was transported to Kingman and booked into the Adult Detention Center for second degree murder and a number of other felony charges.
