Elections 2024: State races heating up

While dozens of Mohave County residents have declared intent to seek county or municipal positions in the 2024 election cycle, far fewer folks have pulled papers to run for higher office in northwest Arizona.

Dist. 2 Mohave County Supervisor Hildy Angius has drawn company in her pursuit of the Dist. 30 Arizona state senate seat. Incumbent Sonny Borrelli is leaving that post next year due to term limits and intends to challenge re-election seeking Dist. 3 Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson in the GOP primary next Aug.

Ashley Gerich of Bullhead City previously pulled papers to run for Angius’ county seat. She said she is abandoning that pursuit to run against Angius for senate.

Kimberly Zannon of Lake Havasu City has also jumped into the prospective Dist. 30 state senate GOP primary field. Kingman resident J’aime Morgaine is the only Democratic to declare for the Borrelli seat.

Incumbents Leo Biasiucci and John Gillette both seek re-election to state house seats in District 30 in the republican primary. Chris Pommerening, Bullhead City, is also trying to qualify in the GOP primary, while Monica Timberlake of La Paz County is the only declared democrat.

Rep. Paul Gosar is so far uncontested in the primary next summer. Democrats Taylor Acosta, Brandon Donnelly, David Lucier and Quacy Smith pose as potential Gosar challengers.
