LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Three people were hurt when a boat exploded near the Nautical Inn launch ramp at Lake Havasu on Friday, Aug. 21.
“Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Marine Enforcement Unit observed the incident and began rendering first aid,” said Mohave County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Anita Mortensen. “MCSO deputies arrived on scene and observed a 28-foot Commander boat fully engulfed in flames near the Nautical Houseboat Rentals.”
Mortensen said deputies were able to keep the burning boat away from other watercraft while they worked to extinguish the flames from their patrol vessels.
Mortensen said two women from Ontario, Canada (ages 26 and 55) were transported to a local hospital before they were flown to another facility for treatment of serious burn injuries. The boat explosion remains under investigation.
