Eastern Street Realignment project update

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman would like to provide the community with an update on the highly anticipated Eastern Street realignment project that kicked off in February of this year.  This project was budgeted as part of the City’s FY24 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan, to create a more cohesive traffic flow for that area of town. At this time Phase I is near conclusion, with the completion of the construction of the box culverts and handrails, the 12” waterline realignment, the installation of the new traffic signal at Airway Avenue, the construction of the curb, gutters, and sidewalks, and the construction of a temporary bypass road.

As crews move into Phase II of the project, we will see the paving of Eastern Avenue, the installation of a raised median on Airway Avenue, and finally the opening of the newly realigned Eastern Street. Upon completion, North Diamond Street and North Yavapai Street will return to two-way streets. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of September.

Tim Walsh, Kingman City Manager, stated, “We are pleased to see this much-needed project come to completion. We appreciate the community’s patience during this process and are excited about the relief it will bring to many residents in the area.”

Acting City Engineer Mike Garmon said, “The project is on track and expected to be completed within the budget allotted.”

The project will construct a new entrance to Airway Avenue and eliminate the need for one-way traffic on North Diamond Street and North Yavapai Street, reducing the impact on the neighborhood. The $4,500,000 project was budgeted in the FY24 Capital Improvement Plan projects list and will be paid for in part by Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF) and in part by City General fund monies.
