Douglas (Doug) John Letcher was born October 9, 1945, in Jamestown, North Dakota to Francis Letcher and Emma Meidinger Letcher and passed away on June 4, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada, after an unexpected illness.  He grew up on a farm, the youngest of nine children and graduated from high school and joined the United States Air Force.  After basic training, Doug was stationed in Ankara, Turkey and Beirut, Lebanon, where he met and married his wife, Judy, and they were married 57 years at the time of his death.  He was assigned to Vietnam and the APO at the embassy in Beirut.  When his duty time in Beirut was over, Doug was assigned to Tucson, Arizona, where their daughter Kara was born.  He finished his service and the couple moved to Denver, Colorado, to be near relatives.  They lived there almost two decades, and then they moved to Georgia, later moving to Kingman, Arizona, where they resided at the time of his death.  Doug was employed at King Soopers as a baker in Denver, Colorado; worked for Yamaha Manufacturing in Newnan, Georgia, and finished his employment working several years with the City of Kingman in Kingman, Arizona; for many years, he had his own upholstery business and did beautiful work.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a brother-in law, three sisters-in-law, a niece and three nephews.  He is survived by his wife, Judy and daughter, Kara, three sisters, two brothers, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Doug was a private person, yet he had many friends, he was a strong and independent person, he was loyal, kind-hearted and always willing to help anyone.  Even when he wasn’t feeling his best, Doug still helped others when he could.  He enjoyed gardening, basketball, music, and loved his VWs.  He was a wonderful caregiver to his wife.  Doug was always busy and didn’t like to sit idle.  He took great pride in the flowers in his yard.  He was always learning new things and was willing to share what he learned.  Doug made an impression on everyone who came into contact with him.  He was a proud American and always felt that pride when he traveled to other countries.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers for the family, please send a plant or bouquet of flowers to your local nursing home or assisted living facility in honor of Doug to brighten someone’s day.

  1. Doug was a wonderful man and he was a friend to everyone of us at the police department. I’m so glad we “ran” into each other and were able to catch up a little bit before his passing. My condolences to Judy and Kara.

  2. Doug was an awesome guy. I had the pleasure of working with him for several years. For years after he retired, we begged him to come back as a volunteer. He will be missed.
