District 4 Supervisor Bishop to seek re-election

District 4 Mohave County Supervisor Jean Bishop

MOHAVE COUNTY – District 4 Mohave County Supervisor Jean Bishop seeks re-election next year to serve one more term before ending well more than three decades of public service. Bishop began working as a sheriff’s deputy in 1986 before transitioning to Constable, then supervisor since June 2014.

Bishop said her varied experience in law enforcement and government provides a good base for her role as supervisor.

“That’s just it. I’ve got a good foundation,” Bishop said. “It’s just natural that I want to serve the people because that’s what I’ve done my entire career. I want to continue serving the people so that I can see some important capital improvement projects come to fruition and make sure it’s all done correctly. Then I will respectfully turn in my hat and go into retirement at the end of 2024.”

While excited about moving forward with the Courthouse and Animal Shelter projects, Bishop said natural resources issues remain paramount.

“I think the number one concern is going to be water. It has been water for years, but I think this coming year we’re going to find some answers to the questions that we’ve had for decades in this county, like how much water is there and how long can we expect for it to last.”

Bishop said information expected from research and sophisticated study will help elected officials make important decisions in coming years and she wants to be remain part of that process. Bishop said she also wants to continue to support Doug Schuster’s effort to increase manpower and improve Sheriff’s Office service in a county challenged by its gigantic size.

Bishop said she is proud to have lived in northwestern Arizona most of her life and the unique characteristics of citizens and small town America.

“It’s the people here. It’s the remote communities. That’s where my love is–with rural Arizona,” Bishop said. “I’ve got Dolan Springs, Meadview, White Hills and Oatman. I also have Hualapai Mountain Park. I am out and about and enjoying these communities all the time.”
