Davis takes plea in fentanyl transport case

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – A second defendant charged in a fentanyl seizure in Lake Havasu City has taken a plea deal that provides opportunity to escape a prison sentence. Zachary Davis, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge reduced to attempted transportation of narcotic drugs for sale during a June 22 hearing.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle explained that other drug charges are dismissed in the deal struck with the state.

Prosecutor James Schoppmann said that Davis, Lake Havasu City, and Zachary Stuart, 32, Huntington Beach, California were arrested following a March 20 traffic stop that produced confiscation of more than 55 grams of fentanyl from the Uber they occupied. Schoppmann said Davis admitted that the drugs had been purchased in California earlier that day, and transported back to Lake Havasu by private vehicle.

Davis is eligible for probation but could also be sent to prison for up to 30 months when sentenced July 22. Davis’ girlfriend, co-defendant Savannah Ketchersid, 34, Lake Havasu, was previously placed on probation for her lesser involvement in the case.

Stuart recently rejected a plea offer. His case is set for trial on Aug. 24.
