Davis gets seven years for beach shooting

KINGMAN – A Halloween shooting at Body Beach in Lake Havasu City brings a seven-year prison term for the defendant. Tony Davis, 21, Lake Havasu, was sentenced by Judge Billy Sipe at a Feb. 3 hearing at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center in Kingman.

Davis pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge in early Jan. Deputy County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said several dozen people had gathered at the beach when Davis fired rounds that struck the male adult victim in an ankle and leg on Oct. 31, 2025.

Davis offered apology during the hearing and indicated he carried a firearm because he had cause to protect himself from unidentified others. Judge Sipe indicated that the gunfire occurred because Davis believed his pregnant girlfriend was threatened by a tire iron.

“He had a flawed belief in defense of others in this case,” said defense attorney Scott Ruffner. “A simple fist fight would suffice, but that didn’t happen. He did use a weapon, unfortunately.”

Davis told the court that the gunfire was thoughtless and impulsive. “The way I reacted to the situation was incorrect.”

Judge Sipe said Davis laid in wait before wounding the victim. “It appears that you ambushed the victim,” Sipe said.

The seven-year sentence is in the upper end of the stipulated plea agreement punishment range between two and 8.75 years.
