County jail RN recognized for outstanding work

KINGMAN – A nurse who works at the Mohave County Adult and Juvenile Detention Centers has been chosen as the region’s team member of the quarter. Staci Philips RN, Director of Nursing at the detention centers said that LPN Tabitha Howell was selected for the honor based on her performance in relation to Wellpath’s core values.

Wellpath is the contracted party which provides inmate health care in Kingman at both the Adult and Juvenile Detention Centers. Philips said Howell is recognized for her quality patient care, dedication and motivation. She said Howell has outstanding communication skills, a positive outlook and enjoys respect among her medical and correctional colleagues.

Howell became a nurse at the county adult and juvenile detention centers in 2017. Since then, she has worked both day and night shifts at our adult and juvenile facilities. Howell works as a “rover” nurse, managing hundreds of medications, wound care treatments, blood glucose monitoring, and much more every day.

RN Donna Christie, Wellpath Regional Director of Operations, explained that in January 2020 Wellpath combined their Southwest and the West Regions to create the “West by Southwest Region.” This expansive region services 44 detention sites in eight states.

The employee awards were created to recognize the outstanding team members who exhibit outstanding performance and demonstrated excellence. Criteria considered are contained in the company’s core values, referred to as the Five H’s. Those values are Honesty, Hunger, Hard Work, Humility, and Humor.

“We are proud of Tabitha and all our medical staff for their dedication and excellent care. Providing healthcare is a challenging and rewarding career that requires special people to step up, even more so when delivering health care to incarcerated patients,” said Captain Don Bischoff, Jail Commander. “Our Adult facility has been accredited through the National Commission on Correctional Health Care for 20 years. Continuing to maintain the high standards of our accreditation requires the commitment of our officers, medical team, and all our professional jail staff.”
