Corkins wants ‘zones’ for sex offenders

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

My name is Hannah Corkins, and I am a mother who has lived in Kingman for less than five years. In that short time, I’ve fallen in love with this community its people, its values, and the small-town spirit that makes Kingman special. But I’ve also seen something deeply troubling: a noticeable increase in registered sex offenders living near our schools, parks, pools, and bus stops the very places our children should feel safest.

As a mother, this reality is unacceptable. Our children deserve more than warnings and worry they deserve protection. Unfortunately, Kingman currently lacks strong local ordinances that restrict where convicted offenders can reside or loiter. Other Arizona towns, such as Huachuca City, have enacted Child Safety Zone ordinances (Chapter 9:335) to create safer buffers around areas where children gather. It’s time for Kingman to do the same.

I am gathering signatures for a petition to present before the Kingman City Council. My goal is simple: to show that I am not the only one who wants change that many Kingman families share this same concern and want to see stricter local protections put in place.

This effort is not about politics; it’s about preserving the heart of our community and ensuring that Kingman remains a safe, family-centered place for generations to come. Together, we can take a stand for our children’s safety and their right to grow up without fear.

Let’s Make Kingman Family Again.

Hannah Corkins
