If anyone thinks tolerating this epidemic during the last seven months has been challenging, try adding a cancer diagnosis to the picture. Those dealing with this horrible disease have many stressful factors to consider, with medical and unexpected bills close to the top of that list. Bring Kingman Cancer Care Unit to the rescue!!! This group’s entire focus is to provide financial assistance to cancer patients during their treatment and recovery. Cancer has affected most folks in one way or another, and we are honored to be able to lessen the burden to any person in our area, no matter the source of their cancer.
Kingman is so fortunate to have a community of very generous people who host fundraising events aimed at offering donations to our group. Others donate prizes intended for the raffle at our yearly fair or give substantial monetary contributions. KAOL held their annual Circle of Hope ceremony in January honoring cancer victims and survivors and they made a special contribution from a delightful party basket raffle. Fast forward to last weekend (8 months later), when a carwash was held, sponsored by Mangelsdorf Family Dentistry and it was a huge success. We are ever so grateful for their hard work and continued dedication. Normally at this time, we would be gearing up for our 10th annual “Walk a mile in their Shoes” tour around downtown Kingman. The “Pink Heels” block party occurred during the First Friday activities in October. These events have also been phenomenally successful. Sadly, they have been cancelled.
Though our fundraising opportunities are rare, due to COVID, supporting patients with their financial needs will be our constant focus. COVID has also taken its toll on our sponsors. For the first time in 45 years, our Arts and Crafts Fair is cancelled. Last year, we were able to raise over $30,000 during our fair. October is quickly approaching and, though the month is known for breast cancer awareness, our focus is on all cancers.
This message is a special reminder that we are ever so grateful for the generosity of Kingman in the past to our organization. It is our hope that, should you participate in a club, social group, or large organization, please consider our Cancer Care Unit in your contributions, fundraisers or charities. Our needs are for your families, friends, and neighbors.
