Community resources lacking

Dear Editor,

I would like to address the total lack of regard to the already outrageous issue of human trafficking and the direct connection between it and homelessness, drug addiction, struggling single mothers and the officials who are in the position to protect but do not. I am a victim of this horrific crime and it is my community that helped put me here. A victim of domestic violence I had to choose to be homeless to be safe and there are no resources for me and my family.

No transitional housing, no food vouchers, no identification, no food boxes, no showers, no shelter, no concern about me or my families welfare and I would like to know; when are we, as a community, going to stop ignoring this huge epidemic that has enveloped our town of kind hearted, giving people? I am in desperate need, too ashamed to beg and unable to steal, we suffer in silence.

Domestic violence, drug addiction, homelessness, single parent homes are at greater risk for human trafficking. please, help us, help us with realistic solutions that gets results because last year, I was just like you, employed, sheltered and safe. Now, I am a woman with children on the street, forced to go back to my abuser for basic needs or be the ashamed dirty person, looked down at with disgust…I am a fortunate one, I have a running vehicle but I am still working on getting out and back to my fam. Once I do, this resident of 24 years will not be coming back.

My community has failed me and continues to fail so many by ignoring the staggering amount of human trafficking victims all around us, every day.
