Child scalder gets prison time

Brittany Gutierrez

KINGMAN –  A seven-year prison term was ordered Aug. 17 for a Kingman woman who scalded her toddler with hot water. Judge Billy Sipe sentenced Brittany Gutierrez, 30, who previously pleaded guilty to child abuse in exchange for dismissal of aggravated assault charges.

Authorities have said that the two-year-old autistic boy suffered second degree burns after his mother used her hands to scoop and toss hot water on him in the bathroom of a Lillie Avenue Kingman residence last Oct.

Police reports indicated the Gutierrez was upset because her son was “getting into things” and would not comply with directives.

Punishment imposed by Judge Sipe was on the upper end of a range that began at probation and was capped at 8 years in prison.
