KINGMAN, Ariz. – A couple of presentations, voting on agenda items, Golden Valley cell tower, the Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport and county parks highlighted the Mohave County Board of Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The meeting opened with a report from the County Supervisor’s Association (CSA) Director Craig Sullivan. Sullivan said the CSA’s annual Policy Summit will be held Oct. 6-8 at NAU High Country Conference in Flagstaff.
Republican Central Committee Chair Janet Wilson told the board a qualified replacement for the Regional Constable vacancy has been identified. She said out of five qualified candidates, Robert “Joey” McEuen was chosen and would be on board in November.
Attorney Stephen Polk gave the board a briefing on Industrial Development Authorities (IDAs) saying they can be created by county, city or state.
A contract was approved by a 3-2 vote allowing for a new office for Sup. Borrelli in Lake Havasu, as his current office is needed for a court room.
New vehicles were approved for multiple county departments. However, a 2026 Toyota Crown Signia for the assessor was denied.
Amanda Claerhout had been selected to fill the vacancy of Aaron Dempke as Judge Pro Tempore for Mohave County Superior Court. However, after hearing complaints from audience members, the board put that on hold for 30 days.
The board approved the Mohave County Sheriff’s office using the vacated Kingman Justice Court facility.
Also approved in public hearings were: authorizing Chair Lingenfelter to sign a new franchise agreement for fiber optics/fixed wireless infrastructure network within certain unincorporated areas of Mohave County; rezoning from an agricultural/residential five-acre minimum lot size to a agricultural/residential zone in Dolan Springs; the cell phone tower in an agricultural/residential zone in Golden Valley; rezoning agricultural/residential zone to residential/recreation zone to allow for a minor land division. This was recommended for denial by a 6-3 vote of Mohave County Commissioners. However, it passed with only one ‘no’ vote.
Bo Helms reported that county parks are still in the red but only by about $60,000, a big improvement from the negative $250,000 from past reports.
The plan to reorganize county parks, removing them from under Public Works into a stand-alone Destination Development & Parks Department, was approved with one ‘no’ vote.
The board approved Lingenfelter pursuing an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) arrangement with Yavapai County and the Yavapai County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA) for future Mohave County IDA-eligible projects, subject to all required approvals.
During the Call to the Public, William “Scotty” McClure from Bullhead City recommended to the board that the Call to the Public be put first on the agenda, instead of last.
