Dear Editor: There have been a couple arrests for tampering with politic signs. In Arizona this is a Class 2 misdemeanor. Maximum sentence for such an offense is up to four months in jail and a fine not to exceed $750. If the offender has prior convictions within two years, the sentence is increased to six months and a fine of $2500. Within seven days of an election the offense becomes a Class 1 misdemeanor with even more severe penalties.
