Crime victims deserve justice

Dear Editor, If there is one pet peeve it is our liberal legal justice system. I don’t know how you feel, but in my case I wasn’t for legal help but guess who is allowed. That’s right my taxpaying friend, the guilty get a free attorney. And guess who doesn’t get a free attorney? Right again! The crime victim is expected to pay. Here is a question for all to really think on. Yes, even pray on for justice. It’s written in our pledge of allegiance: For liberty and justice for all. But guess who comes out on that deal?…

Please respect the homeless

A person would think hunger and the inconvenience of living in a car, seeking shelter in a cardboard box or sleeping on a sidewalk is the worst part of being homeless. It isn’t. Yes, going for two or three days with little food, unable to shower or practice proper hygiene plus the indignities, embarrassment and humiliation of being both broke and homeless are pretty tough things to deal with. But the topper, the worst part of being homeless . . . is being degraded by those in charge of affording some type of temporary assistance. I say this with certainty…

Proposed circus ban stirs controversy

Dear Editor, A recent meeting of public versus Kingman City Council concerning an ordinance banning use of exotic animals as entertainment, appears to have been entertaining in its own right. Testimony from those opposed to banning the use of exotic animals for entertainment purposes ranged from . . . doing so would be a slippery slope, loss of entertainment, loss of revenue, and for some odd reason it was suggested people not being able to distinguish the difference between a Hollywood stunt man with his hair on fire and the use of tortured animals performing tricks. My initial question is,…

Thank God for Cops

Dear Editor, This is written with the most sincere thankfulness to each and every Cop. (yes, Cop emphatically and respectfully  capitalized) Every single one of you ladies and gents who put on that uniform, and lay your life on the line for those of us who rely on you to stand between us and evil, are truly heroes and heroines. Your job may have its satisfactions, but you pay one heck of a price for those ephemeral rewards. To my way of thinking, it is unimaginable to go out every work day into a battlefield where, unlike a military battlefield,…

The gift of a ‘do over’

My wife and I were fortunate enough to live in the house listed on the Historic Registry of places in Kingman. Built in 1910, the house was once the home of the J. Duffy Brown family. The first and former residents of Canada came to Kingman to open a mine. The home, which has always been beautiful, received a badly needed coat of paint during the time that we lived there. Being that it has four different colors as a part of the craftsman style, the project took three weeks to complete. The painters were meticulous in their work, and…
