Lies, lies, lies

Dear Editor, A “Man’s life changes over a lie” letter to the editor is shocking, astounding, and sadly believable since it is abundantly clear how such a scenario can evolve today. Recently The Standard contained news of the Republican Party registrations in Mohave County increasing to 60,000-plus, so it is easy to extrapolate the why of such a heinous lie as reported in “Man’s life changes over a lie”; would have the ability to ruin a life or an entire government for that matter. At last count, over 12,000 lies or mistruths had been documented from the current occupant of…

Talking on the phone while driving is foolish

Dear Editor, Hey people, haven’t you heard that news? Rather, you are drinking or even texting or talking can cost a person’s life. Don’t you even use your brains or did you burn your brain cells out in your college years at the frat parties? Please use common sense if you have a brain at all. All it takes it to lose control due to not paying attention while driving. I have a very honest but serious question for you to really think about. Would you like to pay for a funeral due to reckless and endangerment to others, or…

Congress must act and pass permanent legislative protections for DACA Recipients

Dear Editor, As early as January 2020, the Supreme Court will rule on the Trump Administration’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, as they are set to hear oral arguments surrounding the case on November 12th.  Today, there are thousands of DACA recipients – many of whom are children – anxiously awaiting a decision that could cause them to be separated from the only country they have ever known.  These young immigrants are American in every way. They have made their homes here. They go to school, play sports, work, and give back to their…

Freedom

Dear Editor, What that gentleman in Seligman wrote really hurt my soul, but he was wrong. My Bible teacher and I looked it up. Yes, Tripoli did write it but they were an evil empire that hated the new United States of America. What he failed to say was one word: asserting. Look that up! Asserting the government of the U.S. is not founded on the Christian religion. If you read the Marine Hymn, part of it concerns Tripoli where the Marines took care of Tripoli, but good! Let me give you a little history about the Church of England,…

Reader wants story to be heard

Dear Editor, I was given your paper with a story about a child that lied and destroyed a man’s life. I have the same problem. CPS/DCS, won’t listen to me at all. I would like everything to come out. He had acting classes starting at two. I love my grandson; he can’t get anyone to believe him. I would like my side heard. They won’t listen at all. What a child said when they are in state custody/ foster care: they believe them first, no matter what. Please hear my story. Rhonda Vasquez Lake Havasu City

Vote ‘No’ on school bond

Dear Editor: In his letter to the editor ”Vote ‘no’ on school bond issue” (The Standard Oct 23, 2019) Larry Kersich makes a good argument for voting against the school bond. I would like to expand upon his letter by questioning a tax (this Bond IS a tax) that “Provides additional classroom space by renovating and reopening Palo Christi as a permanent home for our preschool and teacher training/development center.” Keyword: Preschool. Why are the property taxpayers being asked to fund a public preschool? I did a quick check of preschools in the Kingman area and found nine privately operated…
