KCCU extends thanks to community

Dear Editor, As the decade comes to its grand finale, it’s absolutely necessary to recognize our incredibly generous and compassionate community. The members of the Kingman Cancer Care Unit are a group who work tirelessly to provide financial assistance to those in our area who are dealing with the sometimes devastating diagnosis of Cancer. However, our efforts are totally driven by many families, offices, companies, restaurants and generous people in our town. Our Annual Cancer Arts and Crafts Fair was a huge success, thanks to vendors, raffle ticket sellers, raffle prize donors, and attendees. The County waived the fee for…

Shrinking, shrinking, shrinking

Aaah, the joys of aging. HA! I once saw a bumper that says it well. That unforgettable piece of mobile philosophy said “The Golden Years Suck”. We geezers, who were once robust and vigorous and who had bodies with some noticeable form now have a considerably changed perspective. We, as individuals, are shrinking. Yes, shrinking, as in getting smaller. This process happens so slowly as to be unnoticeable, until it’s too late to even try to do anything about it. When you walk down the street or walk around a store, you see old folks wearing clothing that must have…

Refuting the general Climate Change theory

Dear Editor, The Greenhouse effect is not feasible because Co2 does not hold heat for long periods of time when separated from it’s heat source. Much of air pollution that is emitted falls to the ground, becomes smog, and is absorbed into the ground. Much of it is also dissipated and diluted by air. Raw Co2 is therefore the prominent chemical element. As stated before, Co2 does not trap heat for long after being separated from it’s heat source, almost immediately in fact. Therefore, whatever Co2 reaches close to the atmosphere could only trap heat from the sun, which would…

Time travel

By Jack Hommel We frequently see imaginative movies about travelling in time. Some folks think they’d like to go back in time, others would like to go forward. Those of us who have managed to live a long time have already done our travel through the many portals of time. I’ll admit we had to do it the hard way, one day at a time. Yes, we have experienced the wonders of the new and unexpected. We have seen wondrous things and we have seen horrors. However, I believe that most of us who have had the privilege of our…

Gone Away

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is the second in a series of short stories written by local thespian Jack Mint. Mint submitted these stories for a 250-word writing contest. The writing contest is called NYC Midnight and hosts short-story and screenplay contests nationally where writers are tasked with writing and submitting a story in 24 hours. Others writers interested in participating in the contest can go to nycmidnight.com. By Jack Mint Mother waits. It’s a shivering blue light at the mouth of a tremendous machine. The professor reaches in. I cross myself every time he does. Though I fear God, I…

What Is Lurking In The Pork Sold At Walmart Stores?

by World Animal Protection U.S When Sir Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928, the average U.S. life expectancy was around 57 years. Today, largely thanks to the era of antibiotics that he created; life expectancy now stands at 79. The discovery of antibiotics is considered one of, if not the single, greatest achievement in therapeutic medicine. But we stand to undo all this historic work through our rampant overuse of important medicines, and nowhere is this misuse more obvious than in the farming sector. While use of antibiotics as growth promoters in animal feed and water has been increasingly phased…
