Don’t forget to vote if eligible!

I’d like to remind Mohave County voters that only properly registered Democratic Party members are eligible to participate in Arizona’s March 17 Presidential Preference Election (PPE). The purpose is to determine which of the 18 Democratic Presidential candidates that Arizona will be nominating for the National Democratic Party. The Arizona Republican Party previously determined that President Donald Trump will be Arizona’s nominee for the GOP National Party. Republicans, Independents and anyone not registered as a Democrat are ineligible to participate in the PPE. Anyone uncertain of their voter registration status can gain clarification by visiting the Mohave County Website (www.mohavecounty.us). …

Untold truths – What Democrats know, but won’t say

Dear Editor, In the wake of Super Tuesday, five important truths ring clear. Democrats and the media will not discuss them, but here they are. First, “young” and “new” voters are not turning out for these Democrat primaries and caucuses. Unlike both Obama elections, young Americans are uninspired by Democrat choices. Sanders – who touts a “young” following – flopped, falling behind in delegates. Biden, more interested in race than age, lost the young too. On the numbers, young turnout (ages 18 to 29) was down 16 percent from 2016, for example, in New Hampshire – which was less than 2012 and 2008. The number is emblematic. Three…

Freedom

Dear Editor, I’ll never be politically correct. I like my freedom and that brings me back to the New Green Deal and the dreaded internal combustion engine that is responsible for all the woes, according to the climate mongers. When I was a kid I loved working on cars If we buy into this deal of the New Green Deal we give up our cars and our creativity in building and owning them. We’ve got lots of classics here in Kingman and adjoining areas. We also own lots of SUVs and big four-door pickups. When I take my dog out…

Poisoning birds kills cats

Dear Editor, I live in downtown Kingman, and finding on an otherwise healthy cat dead in my yard prompted this letter. I suspect you people who put out poison to kill pigeons and doves don’t realize that a poisoned bird equals a dead cat when the bird slows down (because of the poison). The cat eats the bird, and there you have it, a dead cat. Vicki Kaelin Kingman

Arizona’s Focus Is On Mohave County

Dear Editor, The honor and integrity of the west are alive and well in Mohave County. From its picturesque state parks and expanding tourism to the independence and work ethic of its residents, Mohave County contributes to Arizona’s economy, attractiveness and culture in countless ways. That’s why Arizona will continue to prioritize investments in Mohave County communities. In the Governor’s Office, we’ve worked consistently to increase funding for programs in our rural communities. Last year, we passed the Drought Contingency Plan — the most significant water policy in 40 years. We also followed through on our commitment to invest in…

A Snake that Doesn’t Bite

A Short Story by Jack Mint With his palms next to each other, he turned the scalded remnants to the sky. “Please, mister. I’ll die out here otherwise.” The iron shackles clinked on each word pouring from the desert of his mouth. Cracked, waterless lips and dead gravel eyes pleaded again. I undid the strap on my canteen and tossed it from the back of my horse. The black and grey of his uniform was dark brown. I did not recognize that clay in the desert we stood upon. The fugitive thanked me with artless gratitude but began to ask…
