Probation lasts 15 minutes as he pays fine A former Kingman area fire chief convicted of conflict of interest by a jury of his peers entered Friday’s sentencing hearing with the threat of jail hanging over his head. Wayne Eder, 55, and his throng of supporters left the Mohave County courthouse jubilant that a local judge imposed the most lenient sentence possible, boosting his hope of returning to the fire service industry to continue his career. Goldstrike, White Rock Canyon Trails close for season May 15

The Goldstrike and White Rock Canyon trails located within Lake Mead National Recreation Area will close for the season May 15 through Sept. 30. Park management implemented seasonal closures on these trails in 2014 after public safety incidents significantly increased. Goldstrike Canyon is a strenuous hike, requiring bouldering and climbing. It leads to multiple hot springs and the Colorado River. The area known as White Rock Canyon has multiple trails leading to the Arizona Hot Spring, Liberty Bell Arch and the Colorado River. Duarte faces up to 2.5 years for voyeurism

Using a camera to peer up a woman’s dress for purpose of personal stimulation could bring a prison term for a Mohave Valley man. Ronald Duarte, 36, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of voyeurism. Prosecutor Amanda Claerhout said a woman who was in the hair product aisle at the Highway 95 Walmart in Fort Mohave last September observed a man on his knees pointing a camera up and underneath a dress. Claerhout said the man smiled and walked away when the victim asked what he was doing. The incident was captured on surveillance video and citizen tips helped authorities…

‘STEAM’ Camp, summer school registration underway for BCESD, CRUHSD enrichment, credit recovery classes

Schools in the Bullhead City Elementary and Colorado River Union High School Districts will offer two types of summer school programs beginning June 3.  Elementary, middle and junior high school classes will be offered through June 6. High school classes will be available through June 27. The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) is accepting online applications for 2019 hunt permit-tags issued through the draw process for deer, fall turkey, fall javelina, bighorn sheep, fall bison and sandhill crane.  To apply online, visit www.azgfd.gov/draw. All online applications must be received by the department by 11:59 p.m. (Arizona time) Tuesday, June 11. As a reminder, applicants must possess a valid Arizona hunting license to apply online for a hunt permit-tag. That license must be valid on the last day of the online application period (June 11).
