$35 million KUSD bond to go to voters

Board member Jenny Shumway tempered her previous opposition to the initiative, noting that the voters will ultimately decide the question. But she questioned how the proposal skyrocketed to $35-million when voters might be more inclined to approve $18-million and $26-million options that were rejected during Tuesday’s meeting. “My concern is that this will perhaps be a deal breaker and that they’re going to see this number, the voters, and we’re going to lose it all,” Shumway said. “That’s a concern because the numbers that have kept going out are completely different than these numbers.” Board Chairman Charlie Lucero said that…

KUSD approves next budget; thank several retirees

Kingman Unified School District governing board members approved next year’s budget and saluted retiring personnel during their Tuesday meeting. Finance Director Ahron Sherman noted the tentative spending plan allocations almost $47.5 million for maintenance and operations and that some $9-million is designated for capital projects. Sherman said the final budget may reflect some numerical changes as end of year spending will determine how much carryover there might be. He said attendance figures that dictate state funding contributions are another variable. Six retirees with ten years or more or service to the KUSD were recognized.
