Board of Supervisors calls for opening county May 11

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a motion Thursday afternoon, May 7, recommending the county open up according to CDC guidelines on Monday, May 11.  This excludes three separate authorities within the county – the libraries, the courts, and the offices of elected officials, but, it was recommended that all county entities follow through on the same date. The new measure was initiated to end restrictions that have occurred in the county because of COVID-19.  It follows the governor’s order to reopen most of the state and its businesses on Monday, May 11. Suspect sought in stolen vehicle fire

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City Police are looking for a male suspect who sustained injuries after he drove off in a stolen vehicle that caught on fire. At about 5:50 a.m. on Friday, May 8, Bullhead City Police were called to a vehicle fire in the 1700 block of Mohave Drive.  Through further investigation, it was discovered that two unoccupied homes in the 1900 block of Mohave Drive were burglarized and a victim’s white Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen. Teen charged with underage sexual conduct

LAKE HAVASU CITY – New Year’s morning sex at a hotel in Lake Havasu City brings a criminal charge against the older of the two teenagers involved. Police report that 19-year-old Alexander Currier is charged with sexual conduct with a minor. Police say Currier had sex with a 14-year-old girl. Killer pleads guilty, faces 25 years

KINGMAN – A Kingman woman was killed because she already had custody of one of her daughter’s children and threatened to take custody of her unborn son. Admissions defendants made in the murder of Shawn Vanover, 62, were detailed Wednesday in Mohave County Superior Court. Mark Baldonado, 32, pleaded guilty to first degree murder. He must serve at least 25 years in prison when sentenced June 5. Prosecutor Jacob Cote said Carrie Vanover, 21, was pregnant when she and Baldonado conspired to kill her mother to prevent her from taking custody of their son. Scammers using Zelle for money transfers

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the community of a scam that has increased in popularity recently. Over the course of six weeks, they have received four calls of citizens being scammed out of money after attempting to purchase an animal over the internet. Three of these scams have taken place in the last two weeks. The victims all claim they attempted to purchase a pet (two dog incidents and two cat incidents) on various pet adoption websites across the country.
