UniSource asks customers for voluntary energy conservation

KINGMAN. – UniSource Energy Services joined other Arizona utilities in calling for voluntary energy conservation from  today to ease a regional energy shortage amid extremely high temperatures throughout the southwestern United States. Although UniSource expects to have enough energy on hand to serve customers, the company is joining Arizona Public Service, Tucson Electric Power and TRICO in calling for conservation between 3-8 p.m.  to limit the strain on the regional grid. A similar call may be issued tomorrow and through the rest of the week if similar pressures persist. Customers can reduce energy use by following these measures: Turn up…

Energy shortage possible, conservation requested

BULLHEAD CITY – Heat is straining the energy market and bringing supply problems to the entire western states energy market, including Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) and its members. As a result, MEC is asking members to do everything possible to conserve energy for several days until the crisis subsides, particularly during the prime-use hours of 3-8 p.m. “There are some simple things members can do to conserve, such as grilling outside instead of using the stove and oven,” said Tyler Carlson, CEO of MEC. “If there is a need to do laundry, dry the clothes outside instead of the dryer….

BBB scam alert: Synthetic ID theft, a new trick for scammers

Identity theft is an ever-evolving crime. As credit bureaus and individuals catch on to the schemes of identity thieves, the con artists simply modify their tactics. Scammers are now combining information from multiple individuals to invent a false identity, a technique called “synthetic” identity theft. How the scam works Scammers pull together a stolen Social Security or Social Insurance number (often belonging to a minor or someone with no credit history), the address of an abandoned property, and a fake name and birth date. Using this…

Emergency meeting requested amid rolling energy blackouts in California

TUCSON — On Monday, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Lea Márquez Peterson issued a letter calling for an emergency meeting of Arizona’s public utility commissioners to discuss rolling blackouts in California as the state experiences record high temperatures and insufficient energy supplies. On August 16, California’s independent grid operator asked Californians to set their air conditioner thermostats to hotter temperatures and not use major appliances between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. in hopes that enough energy could be conserved to avoid rolling blackouts. Unfortunately, California’s requested energy restrictions did not work and nearly two million people lost power over a four hour…

Kingman’s Skubal makes the show; has been called up by Detroit Tigers

KINGMAN – Much of Kingman will enjoy a COVID-19 pause and band together to cheer for a local who will make his Major League baseball debut in the Windy City Tuesday. 23-year-old Tarik Skubal has been called up by the Detroit Tigers and is scheduled to pitch against the White Sox in Chicago. The 6’3, 215 pound left handed flame thrower rebounded from Tommy John surgery in 2018 and he beat back the coronavirus a couple of weeks ago to achieve his dream of making the show. He said team officials informed him of his promotion Saturday. “It was very…
