Kingman Area Foodbank honored KINGMAN — The Kingman Chamber of Commerce accepts nominations for people and agencies that provide outstanding services to the Kingman community throughout each year, and once a year selects individuals and businesses from those nominees for the Andy award. One of our volunteers, Elizabeth “Marcella” Jackson chose to nominate the Kingman Area Foodbank. Marcella is one of about 40 volunteers who are the backbone of the Foodbanks ability to distribute food to the needy. (last year we distributed over 1.4 million lbs. of food). KINGMAN – Cancer patients undergoing treatment frequently require assistance getting to and from facilities, often creating a financial and logistical burden. That’s why the American Cancer Society has awarded a transportation grant to Kingman Regional Medical Center’s WL Nugent Cancer Center. These funds will be used to address the transportation needs of cancer patients inthe Kingman service area. An estimated 33,790 Arizona residents will learn they have cancer this year, and getting to their scheduled treatment may be one of their greatest roadblocks. LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City would like to remind you that the 2020 U.S. Census deadline of September 30 is fast approaching. Arizona continues to trail the rest of the country in overall response rate, and if the state fails to reach the 90% mark, the state would lose approximately $620 million per year. These losses would drastically impact rural Arizona’s ability to support future growth. Federal funding to our state and city is directly affected by the Census numbers in this area. Petrified Forest National Park is excited to announce that park visitors can, once again, have the unique experience of talking with a park paleontologist while they work on fossils in the demonstration fossil laboratory. The laboratory is currently viewable Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. LAKE HAVASU CITY – The President of the governing board of the Lake Havasu Unified School District is the target of a recall campaign. Lake Havasu City resident Siena Snedeker picked up recall petitions this week seeking the ouster of Lisa Roman. “President Roman’s failure to engage, thoughtfully discuss and understand the science that she claims to be following has proven detrimental to our students,” said Snedeker’s recall statement. “Her unwillingness to fully open our schools (K-12 has demonstrated that she is serving teachers at the expense of students and parents.” Roman said she’s taking heat for her positions on…
