Havasu fishing club meetings resume

HAVASU – With September approaching Lake Havasu, many of the town’s clubs will be resuming their usual activities and meetings.  For fishing enthusiasts, they are in luck, as the Southwest Outfitters Kayak Fishing Club will be having a meeting next Saturday. 

The fishing club was started by Southwest Outfitters owner Justin Butel because of his love for Hobie kayaks, fishing, and the great outdoors. The club’s ongoing events and activities are filled with fish opens and competitions.

KRW to meet Sept. 2

KINGMAN – The Kingman Republican Women (KRW) will host Julie Coddington, the Mohave County Field Coordinator for the Trump Force 47 Campaign and Danielle Ohle-Keck, candidate for Kingman United School District Governing Board.

KRW will meet on Monday, September 2 at 1 p.m. at the College Park Church Community Center located at 1990 E. Jagerson Ave., 86409.  The doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the meeting starts promptly at 1 p.m.

Hiker drowns in flash flood

SUPAI – On August 25 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the body of Chenoa Nickerson, 33, from Gilbert, Arizona, was discovered by a commercial river trip near river mile 176 in the Colorado River. Park rangers responded and recovered the body, which was transported to the rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

Nickerson was reported missing following a flash flood that struck Havasu Canyon (river mile 157.3) on August 22.

MCC Nursing student helps peers in Nursing Assisting program

MOHAVE COUNTY – Most students can’t wait for summer to get a break from school, but Rowan Gerdes, a registered nursing student, had other plans.

Gerdes volunteered to help nursing faculty with the nursing assistant students. After going through the semester, receiving help from his instructors, Gerdes felt the need to repay them for all the hours they spent together making sure he knew the learning material.
