No extension to quarter cent sales tax

Contemplation of extending a quarter cent sales tax that is scheduled to sunset at the end of this December was swiftly nixed during Monday’s Mohave County Board of Supervisors meeting in Kingman. The Bullhead City Elementary School District governing board has selected two veteran Arizona school administrators as finalists to be the next district superintendent.  Dr. Carolyn Stewart of Bullhead City and Lynette Michalski of Maricopa will have final interviews with the board Wednesday evening (April 17). Game and Fish Commission considers rule to restrict predator hunting contests

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission is proposing to adopt a rule that would prohibit using any lethal method of take during a hunting contest for predatory and fur-bearing animals, as defined under Arizona Revised Statutes 17-101. In a public meeting March 15, the commission unanimously approved a Notice of Rulemaking Docket Opening and Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (also posted at www.azgfd.gov/rulemaking). The Notice will be published in the Arizona Administrative Register opening a 30-day comment period for the public to provide feedback. All public comments received from April 12 to May 12 will become part of the official record for this proposed rulemaking….

Lizotte offered plea agreement; hearing April 16

An elderly Bullhead City man who tried to hook up with a teenager decided to resolve his criminal case short of trial following an April 5 settlement conference. It was revealed that George Lizotte, 72, was offered a plea agreement that mandates imposition of a 5-10 year prison sentence.    Prosecutor Greg McPhillips said Lizotte sought sex from a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl. Martinez sentenced to six years

A Bullhead City man who admits sexually motivated touching of his step-grand daughter asked for probation during his sentencing hearing April 5. Pedro Martinez, 75, told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle that he hoped to return home to his wife after spending more than a half year in the county jail.     Judge Carlisle ordered a six year prison term and lifelong sex offender registration for Martinez. Martinez pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted molestation of a child under the age of 12.    Bullhead City police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said the offenses occurred years ago and that…

Book sale to benefit the Mohave County Library Kingman Branch.

A gigantic Friends of the Library book sale will be held indoors at the Mohave County Fairgrounds, 2600 Fairgrounds Ave., Kingman.  The sale will be open to the public Friday and Saturday, May 10 and May 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Charge cards will be accepted.
