Downed utility pole leaves residents without power

GOLDEN SHORES â€“ A vehicle collision involving a utility pole left 1,681 Mohave Electric Cooperative members in the Golden Shores area without power for about three hours early Tuesday morning. MEC became aware of the outage at 1:40 a.m. and crews were immediately dispatched to the scene and restored power at 4:36 a.m. Members wishing to receive outage alerts for their residence from MEC can create a SmartHub account by visiting the MEC website mohaveelectric.com. MOHAVE COUNTY – District 4 Mohave County Supervisor Jean Bishop seeks re-election next year to serve one more term before ending well more than three decades of public service. Bishop began working as a sheriff’s deputy in 1986 before transitioning to Constable, then supervisor since June 2014. VFW evacuated during vehicle fire

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Sunday fire prompted the precautionary evacuation of the VFW Hall and nearby businesses in Lake Havasu City. Fire department personnel responded at 3:20 p.m. to the incident in the 200 block of London Bridge Road. City Manager Jess Knudson said, in a news release, that the fire apparently started in the interior of a vehicle outside the buildings. Flames spread to another vehicle and were threatening the structures, so the buildings were cleared. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Fairgrounds employee used Fairgrounds to film car burnouts

Video of a mustang spinning donuts and performing rolling burnouts on blacktop at the Mohave County Fairgrounds in Kingman was played during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Some ninety seconds of video showed billowing smoke from burned rubber and sparks flying from the pavement as at least one tire apparently burned off its wheel rim. A second, shorter video showed two vehicles linked by chain engaged in a tug of war inside a fairgrounds building. Cancer car wash fundraiser

KINGMAN – Dr. Mangelsdorf’s office is having a car wash fundraiser Saturday, August 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. They are using the facility located at 3113 Airway Ave. to wash cars for donations. All donations go towards the Kingman Cancer Care Unit to help cancer victims in Kingman.
