The recent earthquakes that rattled Southern California and parts of Nevada didn’t damage Hoover Dam. Following the 6.4 and 7.1 magnitude earthquakes that first struck near Ridgecrest, California, on July 4th and 5th respectively, Reclamation staff immediately inspected the dam and found no evidence of any damage.  “Hoover Dam reacted satisfactorily to all of the recent large earthquakes,” said Nathaniel Gee, Chief of the Engineering Services Office with Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Region. “If our on-site and remote monitoring devices confirm seismic activity at or near the dam, inspectors will physically walk the dam looking for settlement, cracking, sloughing or movement…

The Nevada casino industry reports increased gambling activity for the month of June. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reports that the statewide gambling win was a little more than $1-billion in June, up about 11.6% from the same month the previous year. The same casinos totaled $933-million in June, 2018. Clubs along the Colorado River cashed a gaming win of $39.4-million. That’s up 8.4% from the $36.4-million gaming win for Laughlin casinos in June of last year.

MOHAVE COUNTY  – For the Luv of Paws Domestic Animal Rescue & Sanctuary has been awarded a $7,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its lifesaving work in Mohave County. The investment will enable the purchase of a transport vehicle to transport dogs and cats to adoption events; implement a TNR program in collaboration with veterinarians; and assist the pickup of large donations. “For the Luv of Paws thanks the Petco Foundation for investing in its lifesaving efforts,” said Director Cherie DaLynn. Every graduate of the MCC Physical Therapist Assistant class of 2019 passed the national board exam on their first attempt. These graduates join the MCC classes of 2017, 2016 and 2015 in this great accomplishment.
