BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead City Elementary School District Governing Board voted unanimously Sunday night to temporarily return one group of eighth grade students at Fox Creek Junior High School to Phase One (virtual) classes through Thursday, November 12, due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests. Due to federal laws that protect the privacy of the individual who is not well, BCESD does not share any personal identifying information about who has tested positive.
The temporary move is effective when school resumes Monday morning (November 2).
Approximately 100 students and five faculty members in the group known as “8-B” may have come in contact with those who tested positive. The “8-B” students and faculty are expected to return to campus on Monday, November 16.
“Teachers will teach from home,” said Superintendent Carolyn Stewart said. “Nothing would change except their location. Schedules won’t change.”
Board members also unanimously approved giving Dr. Stewart the approval to temporarily return up to one classroom per campus to Phase One (virtual) if the Mohave County Department of Public Health believes that quarantining is warranted due to future COVID-19 cases in the elementary district. Anything over one classroom per site would require board approval.
The eighth-grade teachers who will be teaching remotely through November 12 are Pedro Aficial (math), James Brewer (science), Jesus Osuna (media/computer science), Steven Price (social studies) and Brent Schnabel (language arts).
Chromebook laptop computers were sent home with students last week in the event the governing board proceeded with the temporary quarantine. Parents who do not have internet access and require WiFi hotspots should contact the Fox Creek office Monday morning at 928-704-2500. Arrangements will be made with the BCESD technology department to issue hotspots at 1004 Hancock Rd., Bldg. 200.
Parents are reminded that they are responsible for damage caused to the computers or hotspots checked out by BCESD. Students and parents are also reminded that all regulations in the Student Handbook and Virtual Handbook apply.
