Bullhead City Recreation Department in partnership with Rusty’s Riviera Marina is hosting a Striper Derby, June 8 and 9. Registered derby anglers are welcome to fish the Colorado River from “dam to bridge” for their chance to reel in some cash. “Dam to bridge” is defined as the Davis Dam to the Needles Bridge. Anglers can compete in three categories heaviest stringer, largest striper and a blind bogey. Prizes will be awarded first place winners in each category with heaviest stringer being the grand prize winner.
All vessel types are welcome: boats, jet ski’s, kayaks, tubes, and standup paddle boards and shore fishing with proper AZ/NV fishing license. Participating anglers must have their official event wristband on their arm during the event, weigh in and awards ceremony to win.
“I am excited to see another fishing derby in the area. We’re looking forward to two great days of fishing on the beautiful Colorado River,” commented Director Jeff Tipton, Director of Human Services.
Registration is now open online at https://bhcreelincashderby.eventbrite.com and cost $25 per angler for heaviest stringer and a $10 buy in for largest striper and blind bogey, plus processing fees. Registration ends June 7 at 5 p.m. Onsite registration, fish weigh in and the derby awards ceremony will be located at Rusty’s Riviera Marina on 520 Riviera Blvd, Bullhead City. Registrants 17 years and younger are welcome to participate for $5 per entry, per category with the chance to win a swag bag full of prizes. Each registered angler receives an event t-shirt and five raffle tickets for the event raffle; additional raffle tickets will be able for purchase onsite. An awards party with live music and more will take place Sunday, June 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for all registered participants and the public.
“We would like to invite the community to come down to Rusty’s Riviera Marina and support the local anglers, purchase raffle tickets, and join in on all the fun” said Ashlee Bennett, Recreation Supervisor for the City of Bullhead City. “This event has had a lot of support from local businesses donating raffle prizes such as Anderson Auto Group giving $500 towards the cash prize pool. Without the support of our local businesses, events like this wouldn’t come to fruition or be successful.”
