Bullhead business bandit takes plea deal

Interior of courtroom

BULLHEAD CITY — The criminal case against an alleged “smash and grab” Bullhead City business bandit could be resolved quickly. Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Gary Halstead during his September 29 arraignment.

Defense attorney Mike Shin informed the Court that Halstead, 48, Golden Valley will enter a plea agreement to end prosecution short of trial.

Public provision of information sought by Bullhead City police investigators led to the identification and arrest of Halstead following a September 13 traffic stop in the 2100 block of Highway 95.

Police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said ten separate commercial enterprises located on Lakeside Drive and Hancock Road, and up off the Bullhead parkway were targeted during a five day span in early September.

She said cigarettes were stolen in some instances and that money in cash bags swiped from three of the businesses totaled more than $10,000.

“Investigators determined that the same suspect, vehicle, method of entry and time frame were consistent with the incidents,” Fromelt said in a September 15 press release. Halstead was reportedly driving the same vehicle when pulled over on September 13.

Fromelt said investigation involving an alleged accomplice is ongoing.

Judge Billy Sipe scheduled a Thursday, October 2 change of plea hearing for Halstead.
